This
song was a charity single written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and
produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album "We Are the World",
with sales of 20 million copies, in 1985.
Harry Belafonte had an idea when he saw the horrible
images of Africa famine, chiefly in Etiopía. He made a campaign for recover
funds and help with humanitarian purposes. His manager will suggest make a band
with some best singers. Columbia Records
gave the cost of the production and the benefit they won for the song. The song
also won a lot of awards.
I listened many times this song but I don't knew what
was the meaning or the history of this. Although it doesn't seems a rebellion
song, when I read the lyrics and investigated about this I realized that it's a
song with complaint. They want that we all are together because we all together
are more powerful and we can stop wars, help us… to live in a better world
where we can be happy.
